NEW BACKSTAGE VIDEOS ALERT!

This week we reminisce our 'Cradle you again' UK tour with 2 new backstage videos. Acoustic renditions of A Heavy Abacus and I don't want to see you like this, recorded at Leeds Wardrobe and Glasgow King Tut's.

A Heavy Abacus

Here we are bending feet
In the dark before dreamless sleep
Cloaks that spot, that shiver, that breeze
Throws you in the dark

Happiness, it won't last long
And this child behind stores it all
The failed man's curse
And the cost of nonchalance

I thank you sly, watchful gene
A plastic life up my sleeve
If you've followed this far
You've realized nothing

Now your world is here
Watch it disappear

Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me
Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me

And it all plays out
And it always comes around
The message fades but the mess prevails
You reckless thing leaving you in our hands

Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me
Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me

All we have is this chance called memory (haunting me)
All we have is this chance called memory (watching me)
All we have is this chance called memory (haunting me)
All we have is this chance called memory

I don't want to see you like this

… A bridge splits November's sky
I'm in two halves inside
This is the past right here
I choose to leave it here

The cliffs loom to scrape you thin
The bowl churns to overspill
But I can see us here, without this fear

… I want to find those books
Search your face, torment us
You're just a shower to someone dry
A shower for the wilted, the dried

… Because we all leave courage's side, but I'll always be courage's child
The past I'll clear, I choose to leave it here
(Leave it here)

… You say have your time again, but you can't and the warning starts now
What's in the frame it makes you sad but you can't fill the gaps
We're four rings on a chain so don't make them rust
I'll be your maps
I'll be your eyes
I'll give the ending a nudge

… I don't want to see you like this

… Alive now in the middle, not looking from outside
Wishing that it was a screen fight
Settled with all of a heroes flair
Put aside , find a new character

… I don't want to. don't want to
Don't want to see you like this

… A bridge splits November's sky
I'm in two halves inside
This is the past right here
I choose to leave it here

The abacus is an ancient counting tool that likely originated in Sumeria between 2700 and 2300 BCE. The earliest abacus may have been a board or slab used by the Babylonians to spread sand and trace letters. Over time, the sand surface may have evolved into a board with lines and counters that represented numerical values. The word "abacus" may come from the Greek word abakos, which comes from a Semitic word like the Hebrew ibeq, meaning "to wipe the dust"

The song to me explores the passage of time in healing, and of the tension between 'this keeps on happening and will continue to' and the hope that a bead will move along the rail. Things can always change but it's also important to accept the now and not focus intently on things you can't control. And the more you focus on your freedom of choice the more growth tends to happen anyway. - Rhydian

Here are the lyrics in Welsh:

A Heavy Abacus

Dyma ni'n plygu ein traed
Yn y tywyllwch cyn cysgu heb freuddwydion
Clogynnau sy'n smotio, sy'n crynu, y gwynt hwnnw
Yn dy daflu i'r tywyllwch

Hapusrwydd, ni fydd yn para'n hir
Ac mae'r plentyn hwn tu ôl yn storio popeth
Melltith y dyn aflwyddiannus
A chost difaterwch

Diolch i ti, genyn slei, wyliadwrus
Bywyd plastig i fyny fy llawes
Os wyt ti wedi dilyn hyd yma
Rwyt ti wedi sylweddoli dim byd

Nawr dy fyd di yma
Gwylia fo'n diflannu

Abacws yn fy nychryn
Abacws yn fy ngwylio
Abacws yn fy nychryn
Abacws yn fy ngwylio

A phopeth yn chwarae allan
Ac mae'n dod o hyd o hyd
Mae'r neges yn pylu ond mae'r llanast yn aros
Y peth di-hid yn dy adael yn ein dwylo

Abacws yn fy nychryn
Abacws yn fy ngwylio
Abacws yn fy nychryn
Abacws yn fy ngwylio

Popeth sydd gennym yw'r cyfle hwn o'r enw atgof (yn fy rhwygo)
Popeth sydd gennym yw'r cyfle hwn o'r enw atgof (yn fy ngwylio)
Popeth sydd gennym yw'r cyfle hwn o'r enw atgof (yn fy rhwygo)
Popeth sydd gennym yw'r cyfle hwn o'r enw atgof

The days I live all counted they must be
And so I move my beads along the lines
What makes this time have meaning so to me
Is YOU, my abacus that life defines

Your smile of love is captured in a bead
Which adds such joy as fingers make it glide
A touch, a kiss, a look fulfills each need
And multiplied are days in numbered guide

I know that soon all beads will reach that place
Where end to life is seen in empty beams
And so will end for me this time of grace
Your love no more to move my days and dreams
An abacus of life you’ve been to me
You’ve marked each moment and eternity

Looking forward to more memories with you all soon. Lots of music coming your way over the next few weeks so stay tuned. Cariad mawr. XXX
